Not a single step was forgotten or skipped over, from the nail prep to the application of the polygel and nail gems at the end. He even cited where each of the products she used were from and called out the links in the description box below the video.

While forgoing your bimonthly gel manicure is probably the least of your worries during this time, there's no harm in picking up a new hobby —like DIY nail art — to help ease any coronavirus-induced anxiety you may be experiencing. (Plus, with all the cash you save doing your own manicure, you can feel even better about supporting hair and nail salons that were forced to close doors and lay off technicians by buying a certificate for future use.)

The most significant difference between dip powder and gel is the curing process. Dip powders cure in a similar way to acrylic, in that the base coat, powder or polish, and activator together create a chemical reaction to harden. On the other hand, gel requires UV lights to cure, so once it’s applied, you sit your hands in a UV light machine for a few minutes. Another difference is application time — dip powder nails can be a much quicker process than gels. In terms of similarities, both have comparable longevity, lasting around three weeks before needing a touch-up. The removal process for both is also similar, requiring filing and acetone to get back to the natural nail. Ultimately, the choice comes down to personal preference.
You'll find discounted sets from customer-loved brands like Modelones, Beetles, and Makartt. If you already have a UV lamp and other gel manicure accessories, some sets come with just nail polish and decor, while others include everything you need to get started. For example, this best-selling Modelones set comes with a UV lamp, seven nail gels, a base and top coat, primer, sequins and stickers, and tools.
Metta advises: "For one-off nail extensions or overlays, it’s best to go for a soak-off solution that can be easily removed."
If there's one nail colour that has yet to go out of style it's rose gold. We still can't get enough of that pinky metallic, but if you thought you'd experimented with every shade of rosé, think again...
Both gel and dip nails tend to last around three weeks before needing to be touched up. That said, your nail growth will ultimately determine longevity, and this could mean that your dip manicure will be intact from anywhere between two and four weeks. This could be ever so slightly longer than the gel option.
Because I can't let anything go, I had to get to the bottom of this "tacky" reputation and find out ways you can use glitter nail polish without making a manicure faux pas. So I asked nail artists why glitter was stuck with this sad label. Some told me it's because kids normally opt for those nail polishes, so they can be seen as immature.
The perfect occasion for glitter is everywhere, all of the time. Thankfully, there is a huge selection of glitter dip powders available, so you can easily get your fix of fairy dust. One of the best things about glitter in dip powder form is the density. Nailpolishes can often be more miss than hit when it comes to painting glitter, but that’s never a worry with powder. Channel an ice queen with white glitter, or choose a powerful look with deep navy. Then, of course, there are classics like gold, silver, and bronze, as well as reds, pinks, and purples. Whatever your sparkly heart desires, there’ll be an option available.
Last year, I discovered a nail fad called Apres Gel-X, which is a type of nail extension that's supposed to be less damaging than the acrylic kind but just as durable, so I decided to go to my nail salon and try them out for myself. The verdict? I loved them! The problem? The cost. When my go-to nail salon closed due to COVID restrictions a few months back, I figured it'd be the perfect time to invest in the Apres Gel-X Extension Kit ($94) and try my hand at creating salon-worthy manicures on my own.
According to award-winning nail artist Metta Francis, polygel nails are a gel-acrylic hybrid. "They are also often referred to as 'acrygel' nails but essentially, polygel is a putty-like consistency, which is applied to the nails using a liquid solution. This helps smooth the polygel onto the nail." Your manicurist is likely to employ a small, flat brush to shape and secure the putty onto your nail, in a similar way to applying acrylics.

Plastic-wrap nail art is one of the latest trending techniques for unique gel manicures and involves painting the nail with a polish or thick builder gel, then spreading plastic wrap over it and pressing on the nail to create texture. Once it's dry and the texture is created, you can paint over it for a multicolor approach or dust glitter on it for a metallic marble effect. File down until smooth and seal with a shiny topcoat, creating a galaxy-like new set that will have everyone asking you about your nails. Of course, as with any art, the options are limitless, so keep reading to find our favorite picks from TikTok and Instagram, and get some nail inspo for yourself!

Even though many of us aren’t getting the chance to be seen by anyone outside of your household due to lockdown measures, we still want to look good. It’s only human. Getting my nails done with Japanese gel at one of the few New York salons that specialize in the technique was part of my monthly beauty ritual. But now, as nail salons are still shut down in many states, and those that are open probably aren’t with the risk, I mostly accepted my hands would look like that of a 16-year-old boy for the foreseeable future.
