For extremely small spaces, softer, more elegant lighting works best. “A play of mirror paired with ambient lighting can create an illusion of more space and can also add to the bling,” aver Shah & Patwardhan.
Polygel is picking up traction but finding a good-quality kit that has everything you need can be a bit difficult. Here are a few we recommend giving a try.
Read moreBasic gel manicures can cost anywhere from £20 to £30, while acrylics are a little pricier. Polygel nails are similar. "For a full set of polygel extensions, you could be looking at anything from £50 to £90 upwards, depending on the nail salon and technician," says Metta.

Frankly, being blonde is neither easy nor is it cheap. Sure, there are a select few lucky souls naturally blessed with bright locks, but for the majority of us (even if you were naturally blonde as a kit), we rely on pricey in-salon color treatments to maintain our fair-haired tresses. Aside from the high-maintenance up-keep and pricey appointments with your trusted colorist of choice, there’s also the issue of upkeep in between touch-ups.
Playing around with different products, May was able to create the final result as a result of layering different products to create various effects. And just like that, the rainbow opal manicure was born.
Because I can't let anything go, I had to get to the bottom of this "tacky" reputation and find out ways you can use glitter nail polish without making a manicure faux pas. So I asked nail artists why glitter was stuck with this sad label. Some told me it's because kids normally opt for those nail polishes, so they can be seen as immature.
Gershion gel is very cooperative and easy to work with, making it a good choice for beginners.
Despite how simple the manicure itself is, finding the right gel nail polishes and UV lamp for you might not be as easy as you'd expect. "Customers should keep in mind to look for kits that match their skill level," explains Bachik. "Some gel kits are three-step including a base coat, color, and topcoat, while others are only two- or even one-step, meaning there is no base coat and the whole process is easier."
"I think anything glittery, shiny, and big can easily be overdone, which leads to people thinking it's tacky," says Brittney Boyce, a consulting nail artist for Orly. "If you look at fashion, black and white along with muted colors are always seen as 'chic,' so the opposite of that gets labeled as loud and cheesy. Plus, I think millennials associate glitter to the late '90s/early 2000s, with raves, butterfly hairclips, and tons of tacky scented rainbow body glitter that you can never fully wash off."

Dip nails are a type of manicure, and a fantastic alternative to acrylic or gel nails and nail polishes. The basic process involves removing all existing polish, shaping, and applying a bond or dehydrator to remove any oils and debris. The surface is then built up using a base coat and natural powder for thickness and durability. Next is the color. A couple of layers are applied using the base coat, after which you would dip the nail into a pot of highly pigmented powder, or pour it on the nail. The process is repeated a few times for each nail, depending on the effect you want to achieve. The look is finished off with a sealing or activating coat to harden the powder and a top coat for that extra beautiful, fresh manicure shine. You can do dip powders on both natural and false nails, making it an excellent option for everyone.

Orlando, 44, said he follows a strict routine, which he claimed is typical of his star sign, Capricorn.
Since May used professional gel nail products, you won't be able to get your hands on the exact tools she used without being qualified. That means, if you want to have fun and try re-creating the look using regular polishes at home, then go right ahead; but if you want a set that looks as perfect as May's, "you'll just have to count down the days you can see your nail tech again," she said. If you are a professional tech looking to re-create this design, then you're in luck because May is holding an online course covering this design, which is available to book from mid-February.
For some of us, binge-watching period dramas has become a creature comfort to get through the past rollercoaster of a year. But for others, crystal work has become a calming and grounding practice for finding solace.
The most significant difference between dip powder and gel is the curing process. Dip powders cure in a similar way to acrylic, in that the base coat, powder or polish, and activator together create a chemical reaction to harden. On the other hand, gel requires UV lights to cure, so once it’s applied, you sit your hands in a UV light machine for a few minutes. Another difference is application time — dip powder nails can be a much quicker process than gels. In terms of similarities, both have comparable longevity, lasting around three weeks before needing a touch-up. The removal process for both is also similar, requiring filing and acetone to get back to the natural nail. Ultimately, the choice comes down to personal preference.
About Us
Metta mentions that unlike acrylics, there is no offensive odour or vapour with polygel nails, however because polygel nails are essentially a 'hard' gel, they can't be soaked off to be removed. "Polygel nails would have to be filed off. Because of this, there is a certain amount of commitment required." Nails might also be susceptible to similar damage caused by removing acrylics, such as weak nails or a bumpy nail bed.

I will say that I made them a little too thick my first time. I could have thinned them out a bit in the mold before applying because a little goes a long way. The biggest lift for me was the filing. I’d recommend investing in an electric nail file to help with shaping. And you’ll probably need it for removal too. This process was made to last and you can definitely tell when you’re doing it.
